Performance Creation Canada – Ottawa June 2007

This summer Artengine will be co-hosting Performance Creation Canada, an interdisciplinary nationwide network dedicated to the nourishment, management and study of performance creation in Canada, and the ecology in which it flourishes.

We’re really inspired by PCC’s notion of cross-pollination among the disciplines, and we’ve worked really hard to highlight those synapses that occur when artistic practices converge.

Our very own Artistic Director, Ryan Stec, will be moderating a panel titled Electric Fences: creating and destroying barriers with technology in performance. Ryan had this to say about his panel, and what he hopes to highlight in the discussion:

The open potential of technological advancement allows for artists to mediate their performances to both unify and fragment the experience. Mandating audience participation, removing the artists’ physical presence from the performance act or inextricably connecting the actions of performers are all possible directions for the role of technology in the creative process. This panel will examine the tension that can exist between these different approaches as panelists decide how useful or destructive electric fences can be.”

We hope you’ll be able to make it to the conference, and to visit our site www.artengine.ca/pcc for more info on all the panels. Panelists bios will be posted shortly as well. Our partnering organizations are Galerie SAW Gallery and the Magnetic North Theatre Festival. There are also links to their respective websites from the PCC site. Check them out too… Happy surfing!
