Doris
Shadbolt
b.
1918, Preston, Ontario
In speaking of her early interest in art she said: "I just liked the territory."
Curator, critic and writer, she and her painter husband, Jack, made the
name "Shadbolt" synonymous with West Coast art. In l988, in collaboration,
they founded the Vancouver Institute for the Visual Arts (VIVA).
"The life of the mind, the love of friends and the natural world including
animals...is just terribly meaningful. They're part of the big connection,
an important part for me."
