thank you
0:10
uh hi I’m my name is Nicole I’m Nicole
0:13
taxi and I’m a performer a choreographer
0:16
dance writer and arts critic I’m right
0:19
now a company summer company member with
0:21
frog in hand
0:23
[Music]
0:32
frog in hand we are performing a
0:36
Bollywood and disco piece so I’m really
0:38
excited to get to be a part of that
0:40
I think that is the most amazing thing
0:42
how these musicians have been able to
0:44
combine a Bollywood song and a disco
0:46
song So seamlessly together and like
0:49
disco and Bollywood are two very
0:51
different cultures very different styles
0:53
and just thinking disco and Bollywood
0:55
you’d be like there’s no way but when we
0:58
were as Dancers just like we got to hear
1:01
this music it just flowed so seamlessly
1:03
and it made it so much easier for the
1:05
choreographer and for the dancers to
1:07
just dive into this this mix of styles
1:15
oh my God
1:17
[Music]
1:32
truly it is amazing how dance is seen
1:36
across the globe and how you know
1:38
anywhere you go you can find someone
1:42
somewhere who’s dancing who’s doing
1:44
rehearsals who’s hosting classes like
1:47
it’s it’s such a universal art form I’ve
1:50
always said that it you know it crosses
1:52
boundaries it crosses language barriers
1:54
like it’s it’s so Universal and Global
1:57
I’ve been able to be a part of this
1:59
Workshop which has been really nice you
2:01
know getting some marketing and
2:03
producing just education because I did
2:07
get that at Toronto metropolitan
2:09
University
2:10
but it’s been it’s been a little bit so
2:12
getting that refresher and hearing it
2:14
again and hearing other people’s stories
2:16
too right so the other people who are
2:18
also part of the festival you know we
2:20
got to hear a little bit about their
2:21
stories where they come from and so that
2:24
has been really great it’s it’s a really
2:26
nice introduction into the festival that
2:29
I’m now going to be a part of
2:31
[Music]
2:46
foreign

3:00
I think the first thing it means to me
3:03
this Festival is that I get to perform
3:06
live again that’s that’s a big one and
3:09
the festival is also going to be in
3:12
Celebration Square and a lot of my
3:14
performances have been in Toronto you
3:16
know because the Toronto has such a big
3:18
dancing and I’m based in Mississauga so
3:21
that means a lot of traveling for me
3:22
that means a lot of traveling for my
3:23
family and my friends and being able to
3:26
do something that is in Mississauga is
3:29
is really nice to be
3:31
come a part of the Mississauga dance
3:33
community and support Mississauga
3:35
artists and you know help bring
3:37
awareness to the dance community that we
3:39
have here I think that is is so amazing
3:43
to start creating the community here
3:45
because we have it we just we need more
3:48
awareness more people understanding that
3:50
known dances here too I think being part
3:53
of such a big and important Festival
3:56
like I’ve heard I’ve been able to hear a
3:59
lot from frog in hand because they have
4:01
been a part of this for three years
4:02
about you know the crowd that comes out
4:04
and how long this Festival has been
4:07
around for is really incredible and it’s
4:11
it’s Global or it’s it’s impact on the
4:14
community is quite amazing and so just
4:17
getting to be a part of this culture and
4:19
this the history behind this Festival is
4:23
something I’m really excited and proud
4:26
to be a part of the value of this
4:28
Festival is is quite incredible because
4:30
it has been around for for so long and
4:32
because it draws such a diverse group of
4:35
people in a in a space that is so
4:37
Central Mississauga I mean Celebration
4:39
Square right we’re always there we’re
4:41
there for ice skating or we’re there for
4:44
you know shows or fireworks for New
4:46
Year’s Eve and now we’re going there for
4:48
this big amazing Dance Festival where
4:51
there’s going to be so many different
4:53
acts and you’re going to see things you
4:55
never expected to see and I think you’re
4:57
going to be shocked by all the different
4:59
acts and I think it’s going to be a
5:00
party too like it’s just gonna be so
5:02
much fun
5:07
excuse me
