Magic & Transformation in the Garden

Welcome to the first Family Sunday of the season! Please join us as we explore magic and transformation in the Garden with special guest, Jen Rashleigh. Jen is a nature lover and horticultural therapist who is joining us virtually from her garden located in the traditional territory of the W̱SÁNEĆ peoples. She will be showing us how to find art under leaves, inside veggies, and more. Don’t miss this artful and uplifting exploration of autumn!

Jen is an adult who definitely believes in magic, because she sees it all around her in the garden and in nature. How else would you describe plants that can solve everything from toothaches to diaper rash? Or seeds that leap from tiny hard coats and grow to become 12 foot vines dripping with sweet fleshy fruits IN A SINGLE SEASON? Jen’s formal training as a horticultural therapist is to connect people to plants, which she does by coordinating food + farm festivals (Flavour Trails) and starting community-integrated farms (Farmers on 57th in Vancouver, and the soon-to-become Sandown Centre for Regenerative Agriculture).

Family Sunday happens every third Sunday of the month October – June, and is an afternoon of exploring hands-on art-making and ideas for all ages. This recurring program often features special guests like storytellers, artists, performers or musicians.

The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria is located on the traditional territory of the Lekwungen speaking peoples, today known as the Esquimalt and Songhees First Nations.
