Discover, explore & make with Jeri - Episode 2

2022

Watch now! Jeri, AGGV Educator, interprets activities from our latest Teacher Resource Guide inspired by multi-phase research and exhibition project In the Present Moment: Buddhism, Contemporary Art and Social Practice. Join Jeri in the studio and follow along to create your own cross-cultural mandala in a hands on learning activity inspired by the work of Dylan Thomas (Qwul’thilum), a local Coast Salish artist and member of the Lyackson First Nation of Valdes Island. Thomas is a practising Buddhist and sees many connections between Buddhist sacred geometry and Coast Salish design and culture. In this video we will explore a piece by Thomas that makes explicit these connections between the ideas and geometries of Coast Salish spindle whorl designs and Buddhist mandalas.
