0:06
alright hello everyone and welcome to
0:09
story time art my name is Tyler and
0:12
welcome to my home studio here today
0:16
today we are gonna learn how to make a
0:19
couple neat little paintings that look
0:22
something like these so you see here
0:25
I’ve got a little landscape with a big
0:27
big sky and I’ve got a tree painting
0:30
with some grass and things like that
0:33
we’re gonna make these paintings but
0:35
we’re not gonna use paint in fact we’re
0:37
gonna make our very own paint today I
0:40
would have some dried out markers so I’m
0:42
sure you have these lying around some
0:45
markers that have lost their caps and
0:47
they’ve dried out and they’re no good
0:48
for drawing anymore right like I’m gonna
0:50
try and well actually that works really
0:52
well so I’m gonna keep that one but this
0:55
one yes look at that doesn’t work no
0:58
good right but I’m gonna keep it and
1:01
with that I’m going to make all kinds of
1:05
cool paint that we can use okay you can
1:10
see I’ve got a couple different colors
1:11
there alright so the first thing that
1:15
you need to do to make your paint is you
1:18
need a cup or jar with a little bit of
1:22
water in it maybe about that much maybe
1:26
a little bit less depends how much paint
1:29
you want to make and how thick you want
1:31
it to be so I’m gonna put a little I’ve
1:34
got some water there and I’m gonna take
1:35
the marker that didn’t work I’ve got a
1:40
few others here I’ve separated out a few
1:43
and I’ve I’ve organized them by color so
1:46
these are mostly sort of pink ones and
1:48
I’m going to stick it in there and watch
1:50
what happens you can see it happen
1:52
almost right away
1:54
I’m gonna swirl them around a little bit
1:57
just like that and look at that now I’m
2:03
almost already getting some sort of nice
2:06
pink paint if you let that sit for a day
2:08
or two it’s gonna go nice and dark just
2:11
like that
2:12
pretty amazing although you can use this
2:14
almost right away
2:15
I’m gonna leave it over here forget to
2:19
sort of soak a little bit so that’s a
2:22
handy handy way that you can reuse old
2:25
dried-out markers and now I’m going to
2:27
show you how we are going to paint with
2:30
that stuff so I’m going to tilt the
Materials
2:32
camera down a little bit so you can see
2:34
my little workspace here here is my
2:37
paper I’m going to put it my mark for
2:41
test and paper gonna put it over there
2:42
so what you’re gonna need as far as
2:45
materials go is you’re gonna need your
2:48
paint that you’ve made I just leave my
2:50
markers soaking in there so that I get a
2:53
nice rich color you’ll need paint
2:57
brushes if you have them I have a nice
3:00
thin one I have some thicker ones I have
3:02
stiff ones if you don’t have paint
3:05
brushes don’t worry a sponge or a couple
3:09
of sponges will do just fine so what
3:12
I’ve done I have a few sponges here and
3:16
I can show you you can make your very
3:18
own paintbrushes with this stuff so I’m
3:21
going to cut my sponge I’ve got like a
3:27
little triangle sort of shape there this
3:31
one I’m gonna leave it mostly big but
3:33
I’m gonna cut it in half this way so I’m
3:35
gonna leave so now I’ve got a nice a
3:36
nice big one so I’ve got that sponge
3:38
I’ve got my little tiny sponge maybe
3:43
I’ll leave this one as this shape and
3:45
then this one I’m also gonna cut it
3:47
maybe medium sized so I’m gonna cut it
3:50
in half again and I’m gonna cut a point
3:53
at the end this stuff is really easy to
3:55
cut kind of like a little house but if
4:00
your hands are really small and you want
4:02
some help please feel free to ask
4:04
someone for some help I am gonna save
4:07
the rest of these sponge bits in case I
4:09
need to make more little paintbrushes
4:10
later I’m gonna put the rest of them
4:12
over there you can use these just with
4:15
your fingers or you can use like a
4:19
bamboo skewer or a little toothpick
4:22
that’s right jam it in there and give it
4:25
a little twist
4:30
and just like that you’ve made your very
4:33
own little paintbrush okay I’m gonna put
4:37
those over here what else you need maybe
4:39
some tape if you want a pencil to draw
4:44
your picture first I got my scissors
4:47
that I used to make my sponge oh you
4:50
will need some clean water so this cup
4:53
is just for clean water not for any
4:56
markers to go and that’s the cleaning my
4:58
brush and you’ll need some paper
5:01
something to paint on so I have so this
5:05
is some heavy heavy watercolor paper
5:07
paper
5:09
this is some heavy watercolor paper that
5:13
I’m gonna use and you can also use some
5:16
white cardboard that I have here as you
5:19
can see I practice on that side or you
5:22
can get some some regular cardboard or
5:25
even a piece of wood and just sort of
5:28
paint it white you know with regular
5:31
house paint even or something like that
5:34
you can just paint it white so today I
5:37
am going to use the heavy paper and the
5:40
white cardboard one for each you can
5:42
also use like heavy cardstock if you
5:45
have it the printer paper it might work
5:49
you can try it out but it’s too flimsy
5:52
it’s pretty flimsy so it might sort of
5:55
Bend and buckle and get old so what I
6:02
have done for the paper is I have taped
Sketching
6:04
it down to this board so it stays nice
6:06
and flat stays put and the water doesn’t
6:10
make it sort of like Bend and bubble all
6:12
over the place and what I have done here
6:16
this one can just sort of stay as it is
6:20
now I’m gonna start by drawing my
6:23
picture out I’m gonna use a marker for
6:27
this one you can use pencil but I’m
6:30
gonna use marker so that you can see it
6:31
a little bit better so I’m gonna start
6:34
by doing my tree I’m gonna do sort of
6:36
the hill that it sits on you
6:39
like that maybe there’s another little
6:41
hill back there and then for my tree I’m
6:45
gonna do a wobbly sort of curvy tree you
6:47
can do whatever kind of tree you like
6:50
maybe I’ll make it a little bit thicker
6:52
and I have to do
6:54
nice big branches coming off like this
7:02
that’s your tree you can decide how many
7:06
big or little branches you want you can
7:09
you can put some little grass nubs at
7:12
the bottom there however you want to do
7:14
that maybe if you want you can even do a
7:16
little tree back here notice how I’m
7:18
just drawing the leaves or sorry I’m
7:22
just drawing the the trunk and the
7:25
branches I’m not drawing anything else
7:27
I’m going to do the leaves and the grass
7:28
and with with the paint now I’m going to
7:32
move over here and I’m gonna draw a nice
7:35
straight dish line going across like
7:40
that I’m gonna do some mountains maybe a
7:45
little mountain there a nice little
7:47
mountain kind of back there like that
7:50
and I’m gonna draw in some big ol clouds
7:58
so normally I would be drawing this with
8:00
pencil first because then I can sort of
8:02
erase my pencil lines but I’m doing it
8:05
with a marker so that you can see it a
8:06
little bit better the pencil doesn’t
8:10
always pick up on the camera so there
Painting
8:14
I’ve got my two little sketches my two
8:16
little drawings and I’m gonna do both of
8:19
them kind of at the same time alright so
8:21
I’m gonna start with my trees I’m gonna
8:23
put this over here
8:25
now with the little brush I grab my
8:28
green actually have two greens here I’m
8:31
gonna maybe go back and forth between
8:32
each one I’m gonna keep this little
8:35
piece of paper over here off to the side
8:37
that’s gonna be my tester I’m gonna dip
8:39
my brush in the in the in the first
8:42
green and I’m gonna dab it on my scrap
8:45
piece of paper first
8:46
oh yeah that’s a perfect green so I want
8:48
to make sure I’ve got the right green
8:49
that I bet
8:50
and for my tree I’m gonna start sort of
8:53
dabbing in little dots of green just
8:59
here and there not too much leaving some
9:03
whitespace just kind of going around a
9:10
little here and there just little
9:12
sprinkles little dots little dabs let me
9:17
on this one do a little bit too okay and
9:21
I’m gonna leave that to dry for now I am
9:24
gonna put more leaves in it later but I
9:26
want my first sort of layer to dry first
9:28
now I’m gonna use my larger brush
9:31
actually what this one might be good to
9:33
use a sponge so let’s try that out I’m
9:35
gonna put my sponge right in there try
9:38
and soak up some of that green and you
9:42
can sort of drag it across like a
9:44
paintbrush or you can sort of sponge it
9:48
and sort of stamp it on you get a nice a
9:51
nice sort of spongy texture or you can
9:56
sort of wipe it across like like a like
10:00
a paintbrush and there we go
10:02
so that’s the first part of that
10:05
painting it’s not finished
10:07
not at all I’m gonna put it down here to
10:09
dry though for a little bit and move
10:11
over to this one now what I’m gonna do
10:14
is let’s see now that I’ve still got
10:17
green on my brush so I’m gonna use that
10:19
green paint my sort of grassy area here
10:23
I want my green to be a little bit of a
10:30
different green so I’m gonna clean my
10:31
brush maybe get a little bit of this
10:34
yellow mix that in there we go now I’ve
10:41
got kind of a different green which is
10:42
cool and that’s all gonna kind of blend
10:45
together as it’s drying now I’m gonna
10:49
move on to the sky so I’ve got my blue
10:52
cleaned off my brush got some blue paint
10:56
in there and I don’t have any white
11:00
paint because I don’t have white markers
11:02
so to do the clouds and things like that
11:05
instead of painting with white paint
11:08
that I do not have I’m gonna paint
11:10
around them with my brush I’m gonna
11:15
paint the sky and everything around my
11:18
nice white clouds almost like you know
11:22
when you’re when you’re when you’re
11:23
coloring in a coloring book and you’re
11:25
coloring inside the lines and you’re
11:28
supposed to you know stay inside the
11:30
lines but now I am coloring outside the
11:33
lines completely just like that there we
11:40
go a nice big thick brush can cover big
11:46
areas really quickly which is nice but
11:50
if you want to be sort of slow and
11:52
careful with it you can use a smaller
11:53
brush as well there we go
11:59
so I might want that to be a little bit
12:02
of a darker blue later so I’m gonna show
12:06
you in a minute how to make that darker
12:07
so I’m gonna put that aside again move
12:10
these all the way clean off my brush and
12:14
now I’m gonna go back to my tree
12:16
painting which is mostly almost dry
12:20
going back to my small brush I’m gonna
12:23
used a different green adding in a few
12:29
more little drop sand dabs here with the
12:32
two different kinds of green there we go
12:40
maybe I’ll also add in some yellow to
12:44
get a little bit of a different color
12:47
going in there yeah that looks pretty
12:49
nice adding some yellow to my green
12:52
makes my green change a little bit quite
12:57
like that oh I forgot to paint in the
13:02
tree trunk so let’s see I’m gonna use
13:05
purple for the tree trunk I have Browns
13:07
but I’m gonna use purple for this
13:09
because I like purple it’s one of my
13:11
favorite colors you know it’s your it’s
13:14
your tree right you can make it whatever
13:16
color you would like to there we go
13:23
and there you have it so there’s my
13:27
maybe I’ll do a little more on the grass
13:33
add a little more a little more color to
13:37
that
13:42
and there’s a quick version of my sort
13:45
of my little tree painting you can add
13:48
more things that you want maybe a you
13:50
can put a little person in there or like
13:51
a house you could do the sky I think I’m
13:54
gonna leave mine just the way it is for
13:56
now
13:57
and I’m gonna skip back over to my
13:59
mountain painting now this is started to
14:01
dry out which is pretty nice I’m gonna
14:04
do purple mountains for this so I’m
14:09
gonna start painting in here and again I
14:12
don’t have white paint so what I’m gonna
14:14
do for my little mountain caps is if I
14:17
want snow to be at the top of the
14:19
mountain I’m just gonna not paint where
14:21
I want there to be snow just like in
14:26
that there we go
14:52
and there you have it so maybe now that
14:56
I’m done my mountains my grass is dried
14:59
maybe I’ll use some of the brown here
15:01
and I will paint in maybe a little oops
15:06
wolf fence kind of like that I should
15:12
have waited for that to dry a little bit
15:14
longer and here you can see on my
15:20
finished one I painted it a little a
15:26
little fence and there’s a little barn
15:28
in there so there you have it I have my
15:32
little paintings here that you can all
15:35
you need to eat all you need for for
15:37
that to do is some markers and some
15:41
water that’s all you need
