so

0:31

well i can’t really imagine doing

0:34

something like what we’ve been doing

0:36

here for a number of years without

0:37

professionals

0:39

instant feedback

0:41

and and i’m not talking about about

0:46

software feedback

0:48

i’m talking about the the human

0:50

psychological

0:52

feedback that you get with uh with uh

0:55

a professional musician a high level

0:57

professional musician

0:59

i don’t think i don’t think my

1:01

my students our students would be nearly

1:03

as interested in this project they would

1:05

not be

1:07

as engaged in these projects without

1:09

professionals

1:10

participation like the amici’s it’s just

1:12

invaluable

1:14

um it’s really amazing to have them just

1:16

look at your piece and just right out of

1:18

the gate have it be so much better that

1:20

you yourself can ever perform it and so

1:22

much better than the computer right

1:24

i think it surpassed my expectations

1:27

just because um

1:28

as one person i can only hear bits and

1:31

pieces of it and the only way you can

1:33

hear all the parts at the same time is

1:34

through the computer which is obviously

1:36

very artificial so

1:38

i’m very pleased with

1:41

the

1:42

little things that they found in it even

1:43

though it was so short and

1:46

and i i was very impressed with their

1:49

play

1:50

it was exciting because

1:51

it’s nice to hear your music played by

1:54

actual musicians rather than just on the

1:56

computer because you know there’s the

1:58

computer like strips away the soul of

2:00

the piece you could say um there’s also

2:02

a little nerve wracking you know it’s

2:04

like oh i don’t know what they’re gonna

2:05

think of it i mean i’m just like a

2:07

student composer i mean they’re used to

2:10

playing like

2:11

masterpieces and it’s

2:13

yeah it’s a little nerve-wracking

2:18

i think it is very commendable this

2:20

program and i know it doesn’t

2:23

it’s unfortunately it doesn’t exist in

2:25

many many schools

2:27

nowadays when i was in high school i

2:29

couldn’t even dream of being given the

2:32

opportunity to to write the piece let

2:33

alone

2:35

that piece being played by by

2:37

world-class

2:38

ensemble be a terrific experience for

2:41

students to be able to have their works

2:43

performed by a professional ensemble all

2:45

sorts of music is composed

2:47

never gets performed

2:49

but it’s uh

2:51

i think it’s a it’s a terrific incentive

2:53

for them

2:54

certainly as a part of their course it

2:56

gives them a deadline they have to have

2:58

this piece written by a certain time

3:00

because it’s going to be performed

3:03

and that’s that’s just like in real life

3:05

a composer often has a deadline the

3:08

commission works all the time

3:10

and they know when the concert date is

3:12

and if they don’t have it done it

3:13

doesn’t get performed so this is

3:16

it’s an incentive that’s for sure

3:19

it’s really a great opportunity for the

3:20

students and

3:22

they get a really nice recording of the

3:23

piece and i know at least one of them

3:25

have gotten

3:26

have gone on to win an award for the

3:28

piece and i think

3:29

i hope that the recording also was was

3:31

helpful in that sense so there’s there’s

3:33

benefit

3:34

multi benefits to this

3:36

i think this must be their sixth or

3:38

seventh year uh

3:40

you know we did it as an experiment

3:41

first to see how it would work

3:45

and uh

3:47

they were pleased with the results and

3:49

one of the things that

3:50

really

3:51

makes me very happy and is very good for

3:53

our program is they they program

3:56

one of our pieces for their one of their

3:57

concerts

3:58

and this also serves

4:01

as an extra kind of a spur

4:03

for those students whose p or the

4:06

student whose piece might be accepted

4:08

because uh when we finish this project

4:11

the student gets gets accepted for

4:13

performance always revises and rewrites

4:18

so i’d like to thank the mh ensemble for

4:20

continuing their involvement with us

4:23

great project

4:39

so

5:05

you
