0:00

here we go we will be recording this

0:02

session and we’ll be posting it on our

0:06

website

0:07

I hope so that way if you miss something

0:10

or if you want to watch it again you can

0:11

you can go back and and and you can

0:15

watch it feel free to follow along with

0:17

the project I tried to choose something

0:20

kind of simple for the first one you can

0:24

follow along if you want or you can just

0:26

watch totally up to you okay so I’m

0:32

going to type take you through all the

0:34

tools and the materials that you’re

0:37

going to need for this and I’m going to

0:39

tilt my camera down here so you can see

0:41

the the workspace that we are working

0:45

with okay so the basic principle that

0:54

we’re working here with here is gluing

0:56

stuff to other stuff and we’re taking

1:00

inspiration from the Bruegel bosch bus

1:03

by Kim Adams and the stuff that he glued

1:09

to the other stuff was mostly toys and

1:12

things like that and then the other

1:14

thing was the the bus so that’s where we

1:19

kind of have to start is choosing a base

1:23

something that you know is going to be

1:25

the bigger thing that we’re going to

1:26

glue and then the other things that go

1:28

on to it so the tools we’re using today

1:31

you can use either white glue or a wood

1:35

glue

1:37

I find the white glue works just fine

1:40

which is good I’m also going to be using

1:44

these glue sticks with a hot glue gun

1:47

which that works just as fine sometimes

1:51

the white glue actually works better

1:52

it holds stronger but it just takes a

1:55

lot longer to dry so I might be using

1:57

the white glue on certain parts we’ll

2:00

see I always keep a cup with water in it

2:06

nearby

2:06

in case I accidentally burn my hand on

2:09

the blue thing these are low temperature

2:12

glue gun so it’s not about that not that

2:17

worried about it but it’s there just in

2:20

case so also I have a pair of scissors

2:28

and in terms of other materials I have a

2:32

whole selection of things here

2:34

I’m going to take you through each of

2:35

them sort of one by one and I’ve

2:37

organized them according to size shape

2:41

color and what type of material they are

2:46

so I’ve used old Tupperware’s with no

2:50

lids I can’t find the lids anymore and

2:53

I’ve organized these items in here so I

2:55

have two buckets with wood pieces in

3:00

them this one’s all sort of random wood

3:03

pieces and this one is all they’re all

3:05

the same so I kept those separate I have

3:09

some plastics in here so they’re like

3:12

fridge magnets these colorful buttons

3:20

these are also plastic but they’re more

3:23

like these are from an old shelving unit

3:27

that I discarded but for some reason I

3:30

decided to keep these so there’s just

3:32

sort of a few but I kept these separate

3:36

because of the color differences so

3:38

that’s one thing I did there and I have

3:44

some poker chips in here that were given

3:46

to me I don’t really play poker

3:47

but maybe I’ll use also glass beads I

3:55

have sworn plastic things here so these

3:59

are going to come in really handy lids

4:01

from like yogurt containers

4:03

I have lids from other things also like

4:06

a lid from a glue stick that dried out

4:10

so I kept that like little tiny lids

4:14

that were left over from watercolor pen

4:17

tubes

4:20

and we’re here I have also some metal

4:23

objects I used a couple of these like

4:27

like this here this is a hinge from like

4:29

a sewing desk I think that I mean I

4:34

don’t know how to use that again so I’m

4:36

gonna use that for this I didn’t use a

4:38

pick out any like sharp things like

4:42

screws or nails or anything like that

4:47

you know like these tools from like IKEA

4:52

furniture where you you know you

4:54

probably have like a dozen of these

4:56

lying around make sure you keep at least

4:58

one handy in case you need to take that

5:01

kept apart but yeah I collected all

5:05

those one of the big things that you

5:08

want to to make sure of is like you’re

5:12

not using something that is still usable

5:16

for its original intended purpose like

5:18

you don’t want to be looting someone’s

5:20

work area and you know for for your art

5:25

project and you know they go back and oh

5:27

where’s my screwdriver for this like you

5:30

know you want to make sure that you’re

5:32

you’re doing that for bases today I’m

5:36

just going to use a flat piece of like a

5:39

panel a board but you’re welcome to use

5:42

whatever you like if you want to you

5:46

know if you if you want to use something

5:48

that’s more sculptural and

5:49

three-dimensional you can definitely do

5:51

that

5:51

these are the examples that I’ll be

5:53

working off today so with both of them I

5:59

used a canvas board panel I glued the

6:03

items on and then painted it afterwards

6:06

which I’m not going to do in this

6:07

workshop but I will do maybe a little

6:12

bit after and this one you can see I’ve

6:14

used a couple of old toys like the

6:17

wheels from a Hot Wheels truck like a

6:21

broken arm from action figure chess

6:26

pieces that were discarded so those are

6:28

really good to use for this project as

6:31

well

6:32

so a couple different things here I’m

6:36

gonna use this cardboard because it

6:37

looks nice or it shows up nice off the

6:39

white the white table and to begin I

6:46

have this array of things in front of me

6:49

where to begin I think what I will do

6:52

there’s a couple ways you can do it is

6:54

you can think about what you want to

6:56

make first if you have an idea if you

6:57

don’t and you’re not sure where to start

6:59

I like to do a little bit of shopping so

7:02

maybe I will take one thing from each

7:05

basket or two things from three baskets

7:08

or something like that so maybe I’ll

7:10

grab these two lids and I’ll grab a

7:17

handful of these and here’s this thing

7:28

poker chips and it looks like everything

7:32

I’ve you know once you’ve grabbed a

7:34

couple of things take a look at it and

7:35

just sort of see what you’ve grabbed

7:37

everything that I’ve grabbed so far is

7:39

is they’re all circles so to offset that

7:43

maybe now I want to start grabbing

7:44

things with straight lines or angles so

7:47

maybe these some of these will work

7:49

we’re good for that I set aside a few

7:54

other things that I’m going to use as

7:56

well I picked up ahead of time there are

7:59

a couple lids and circle these things so

8:03

now that you have a couple of things

8:05

here you can start to arrange on your

8:09

board

8:09

I usually start with the bigger things

8:11

first a large nice big these little

8:19

things I’m gonna maybe put them aside to

8:21

start because I don’t want to put all

8:24

kinds of little things on and then you

8:27

know if I put a big thing on top of that

8:29

then I can’t see them I mean you can’t

8:31

do that if you want it’s your art right

8:34

so I’m going to start with the bigger

8:37

the bigger things you can put them

8:41

side-by-side you can put them inside

8:42

each other that’s what I did on this one

8:46

I did a big lid and in a smaller lid

8:48

like pop actually maybe I’ll put this

8:56

kind of see it there I don’t know if

9:00

that helps or not

9:03

I’ll put these little circles kind of

9:09

like that and then that one there all

9:17

right and then maybe nice inside some

9:19

say I have some circles going maybe I’ll

9:21

put like a triangle thing in there

9:25

somewhere so I’m gonna kind of move

9:26

these things around until I’m happy with

9:31

a design so they have sort of a design

9:34

that I’m happy with so maybe I’ll do it

9:36

like yeah man it’s kind of looking like

9:47

a little robot face once I’m kind of

9:52

happy with this I’m not done with you

9:55

know I’m gonna go back and choose more

9:56

objects and add them in but this is sort

9:59

of the base layer so I’m going to start

10:01

gluing these things down so making sure

10:06

that my glue is ready to go and kind of

10:13

away from my fingers I’m gonna take

10:21

these off for a second I don’t need a

10:23

lot of glue I don’t need to you know go

10:26

nuts but did you also want to make sure

10:28

that stays I’m just using little dots of

10:33

glue

10:36

[Music]

10:41

and now this part I’m actually going to

10:43

make this separately before I attach it

10:46

on man and now I’m going to attach it on

11:06

to here you got to kind of work a little

11:18

bit quick when you’re working with hot

11:20

glue because it does dry kind of quickly

11:24

however if you know you miss your

11:26

opportunity if you put a little bead of

11:28

glue on there and then it dries you can

11:30

just pick it off release it’s basically

11:32

like plastic tees off and then this one

11:44

all right so I’ve got my my piece

11:48

started I haven’t really you know I

11:53

didn’t really start with a plan ahead of

11:55

time but now it’s kind of turning into

11:57

this it kind of looks like a little bit

11:59

of a face which you know if you see

12:02

something and you want to go that

12:04

direction great go for it but I think

12:07

for this one I want to go a little bit

12:09

different so I’m going to Christie sees

12:14

a solar system hey cool yeah

12:16

I like that right so everyone can see

12:19

something a little bit different and and

12:21

you can you can go your own direction

12:24

write it see if it’s your it’s your

12:26

thing

12:26

so I think because I want to go a little

12:28

bit abstract maybe now I’m going to add

12:32

something that’ll make it look not like

12:34

a solar system or a face that’s my

12:37

challenge for now so now I’m gonna go

12:40

back through my row of things or you

12:44

know I can start going into what I have

12:47

here and pick some smaller things so

12:49

it’s kind of like if you’re drawing or

12:51

painting you

12:52

start with the bigger sections first you

12:55

start with the background you know the

12:57

big sky the big mountains whatever and

13:00

you knew that the smaller details later

13:02

at the end you’re not going to do the

13:04

small details you know right away

13:06

because well then you’re going to cover

13:09

them up with rest work so this one here

13:13

I’ve got again I’m not really thinking

13:16

about this I’m just kind of picking out

13:18

things that I like that kind of I like

13:21

the look I also have these for some

14:00

reason these are just the inside role of

14:04

like dog bags and then some like

14:13

drinking straws I have those here

14:15

something that you can do if you like is

14:20

getting an object and sort of chopping

14:22

it up that’s what I used physics for and

14:26

what I did earlier is I took a straw and

14:29

I sort of cut it up into sections or

14:33

into small pieces

14:34

and then I glued those down onto this

14:37

board to sort of designate or cut out

14:41

some sections like that okay that’s how

14:43

I started this one here so it almost

14:46

looks like there isn’t really much of a

14:51

story here but like it could be like a

14:54

three dimensional comic book page you

14:58

know it could be so that’s kind of you

15:02

know what you could do with that one and

15:04

then I started gluing

15:05

inside each rectangle okay so I got

15:12

these strong all right so now let’s see

15:32

maybe I will put some of these glass

15:36

smaller things adding so what I’m doing

16:07

here is I’m adding smaller details but

16:11

I’m following the I’m following the line

16:15

of this here as a bit of a guide so I’m

16:19

not just sort of putting them on

16:20

randomly I’m kind of following to you

16:24

know to go along with that line maybe

16:34

what I will do is I’ll use some of these

16:39

wood pieces kind of glue them sort of

16:46

side by side I have two different sizes

16:49

here so I’m going to alternate them to

16:52

make the pattern I can fit it on that

17:07

side though so now here what I’m trying

17:12

to do is add some a little bit of

17:14

contrast with less

17:18

less circley bits and more sort of lines

17:22

so I’m trying to I’m trying to contrast

17:27

these circle lines with these straight

17:30

lines kind of going up and down so I’ve

17:31

got them kind of cutting through but

17:33

they’re also angled so they they kind of

17:35

match with this a little bit okay so

17:40

what next I have a little bit of space

17:42

to fill or to work with at least I don’t

17:46

necessarily have to fill the space so I

17:47

have some empty space here and some

17:50

empty space here now what I might think

17:53

of doing is filling up that space or I

17:56

could just leave it as it is because

17:58

this empty blank space and you know here

18:01

they kind of balance each other out

18:03

so if I have just if I fill everything

18:05

up all over the place it might be a

18:07

little it might end up being a little

18:10

visually complicated which is again fine

18:14

if that’s what you would like to do but

18:18

I’m going to maybe add a little bit of

18:22

something on this triangle here maybe I

18:26

will put a marble I’ll do I’ll do two

18:33

marbles

18:36

and all do three yeah let’s get crazy

18:41

there we go

18:43

three marbles now my sculpture is

18:46

starting to to go up that’s right all

18:51

the marbles and I have put them in

18:54

there’s a groove in the in the baseboard

18:58

chunk there and I sort of set them in

19:00

there so how much time do we have left

19:09

okay so we’re almost out of time

19:11

unfortunately so I’m gonna try and

19:16

finish this up really quickly maybe I’ll

19:19

move over to this one when I started

19:22

making these they started taking on the

19:25

look of almost like like a fence to me

19:27

so I’m gonna glue a few more in there

19:30

kind of quickly I knew I went pretty

19:34

abstract on the first one but let’s do

19:37

something a little more kind of

19:39

representational on this one and I’m

19:45

going to use the glass bead and maybe

19:50

stick it right up there okay well I was

19:56

kind of going for like that’s a moon in

19:58

the sky and it’s like a fence kind of

20:00

thing

20:01

I don’t know if that actually is what it

20:03

looks like or not but oh yeah you see it

20:05

okay it’s great but that’s kind of what

20:07

I was going for there so you can use

20:09

these to create something a little more

20:12

representational let’s see what I can do

20:14

in this bottom let’s take one surf gold

20:31

dollar circle

20:37

[Music]

20:49

okay I don’t have a plan anymore I’m

20:51

just kind of freestyling I have a bit of

20:56

a plan I don’t know if it’ll work

21:17

oh thank you very much

21:24

kay to say she welcome very happy that

21:29

you could join us this is our first time

21:32

as well anyways I’m trying to make like

21:36

a tractor I don’t know if it’s getting

21:38

there or not but that’s kind of what I

21:40

was going for in this one if I add a few

21:45

more little pieces in there it’ll start

21:47

to start to look like that Zamboni

21:53

okay that’s like an ice tractor Oh

21:56

BBA yeah it just kind of look like BBA

22:02

cool so that’s kind of it for today I’ll

22:07

show you through our things these are

22:10

what we what we made in here today maybe

22:14

maybe I will post these up on our on our

22:19

Facebook and our Instagram along with

22:21

the examples I did before maybe I’ll

22:23

paint these after I’m not sure we’ll see

22:26

so what we’d like to do is is if anyone

22:30

made something or is going to make

22:32

something we’d love to see your work so

22:39

if you take a photo of it and post it to

22:41

our Facebook or Instagram and tag agh

22:45

and use our hashtag hashtag agh at home

22:57

and then that way we can see you’re

23:02

wonderful you’re wonderful creations

23:04

which is what this is all

23:13

I guess that’s I wrote I I sort of wrote

23:17

a script up until now so I don’t really

23:20

know how to finish this but thank you

23:24

very much for joining us everyone it’s

23:26

been a real pleasure I’m so so happy

23:29

that you know the sound and audio worked

23:34

and hopefully we’ll see you next week
