hello everyone welcome back to the aga
0:18
studios
0:18
today we’re going to be exploring a
0:20
process called callography
0:22
what’s callography well it’s a form of
0:25
printmaking
0:26
that uses collage to build up a matrix
0:28
or a plate
0:29
and then you print from that what’s
0:32
unique about callography
0:33
is that it can both be an in a relief
0:37
printing process or intelio printing
0:40
process
0:41
now there are a couple of ways that you
0:43
can do calligraphy
0:45
you can use mixed-media materials things
0:48
that are flat
0:49
like pipe cleaners bread tags puzzle
0:53
pieces
0:54
paper clips string whatever you have um
0:59
you can also this is one of my favorite
1:01
little books
1:02
i have a couple of examples in here too
1:05
of
1:06
using material so different textured
1:08
materials
1:09
and just gluing them to a base or
1:14
paper and that’s what we’re going to be
1:15
doing today we’re going to create
1:17
an image using just paper

1:39
let’s put it together decide which
1:41
direction you want your plate to be in
1:43
so horizontal or vertical
1:48
cut or rip your scrap paper into shapes
1:50
and place them on the plate
2:28
work out a couple of compositions
2:37
keep working with the different shapes
2:39
placing them
2:40
in different ways until you come up with
2:44
something
2:48
that you really like
2:53
pick your favorite and then glue down
2:54
your composition and let dry
2:58
okay once your plate is ready to go add
3:01
paint to your
3:02
to your matrix when using paint you’ll
3:05
have to work fast you don’t want the
3:06
paint to dry
3:09
so go ahead you might want to mix up a
3:12
couple of colors
3:13
just ahead of time just so that you
3:16
have a range to work with so we’ll add
3:19
a little bit of blue there
3:28
green here
3:44
now
3:46
nice mellow yellow
3:50
here okay so
3:54
now the next thing that you’ll want to
3:55
do is try to cover your plate as quickly
3:58
as possible so i’m just going to turn my
4:00
plate this way just so
4:01
it’s easy for me to get the color in so
4:04
i’m going to start with the light color
4:07
just sort of get that in first
4:14
in principle it’s good to start from
4:17
light color to dark color
4:21
so done
4:40
starts
4:48
you want to work really fast a sponge
4:56
get those layers
5:04
and then you can always go back with the
5:08
paintbrush
5:27
don’t be afraid to mix colors on the
5:30
plate as well you can also do that
5:43
and once you’re happy with
5:50
your
5:53
paint and it’s still wet
5:57
just take a piece of paper hold it
6:01
down on your sheet of paper i like to
6:04
give it a bit of a rub
6:06
and if you want to use a spoon you can
6:09
rub all around
6:12
really get into the areas that you put
6:31
once you’ve given it a good rub
6:33
everywhere
6:36
let’s find a lot of pressure
6:39
you can slowly pull up the corner and
6:42
just peel back
6:47
your print ta-da

6:55
i hope you have a chance to try this at
6:57
home
6:58
and please share with us happy creating
