How do we experience colour, light, movement, objects in space, and the space around us? In our own way. are you experienced? gathers the works of global contemporary artists who activate multiple levels of sensory awareness, with the goal of inspiring intuitive responses. A wander through the exhibition spaces with an open mind may bring as much meaning and revelation as reading about the pieces.
The artists propose distinct representations of familiar yet strange objects, events, people and places, through video, installation, sound, sculpture, photography and painting. With some political undertones, these artists ask viewers to see themselves seeing, to be transformed within an alternative environment, to think critically but with
awareness of one’s emotions, and ultimately to engage the body and mind through art.
The work of Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson is pioneering, driven by his interests in perception, movement, embodied experience, and feelings of self. Eliasson and the
other exhibition artists strive to make the concerns of art relevant to society at large.
Beyond the physical presence of the artworks, the exhibition explores subtle themes such as transcendence, and the ways in which an artwork can be both immanent and starkly present. Experience creates meaning and are you experienced? will mean many things to many people.
