I done SMD and it was simpler than I expected. Due to other reasons I
did get some practice boards to try out and if you not sure maybe that
would be an option, practice solder on something that doesn't matter if
it is wrong.
I have also taken scrap electronics and desoldered SMD components from
it just to solder them back.
After doing it the hard way I heard a quick way to do it is to put the
whole board in the oven, then take it out, turn around completely and
bang hard, all components then suppose to fall out.
