[Lab] looking for microcontroller wifi module

I have 3 of these little boards on order. By the looks of it, I'll just have to send it the SSID & password of my router, domain and port # of the computer I want to connect to, then send and receive characters. Time will tell if it's that easy. I have some text-based AI software I want to connect to an IRC server.

 Richard posted an
enteresting info about new wifi see below Richard tread:

So on Hackaday 2 days ago, they posted an article about $5
WIFI IC board, its very interesting.... Called the ESP8266,
so I snagged ESP8266.com to put up a community for it... so
far there is 1 user on it... me :-)
I have a lot of interest in WIFI modules.
If your interested you can create an account and start
posting, anything... I think its going to be a very
 interesting IC....

If you have ideas on how I should be setting up this
 community I am all ears...
 Richard.

 Hey,

I have a cc3000 module you can borrow. I'm not using it
right now and has libraries for Arduino and ti tiva.

Hi Jason, thanks for the info. It would be nice to
 be able to use those
libraries but I dont think bluetooth will work for my
 situation. The
distance will be between 40 - 200 feet.

    I see that
you're looking for Wifi connections, but if you're
working in short ranges and short messages consider
BlueTooth. There are some pretty good libraries for getting
bluetooth going between Arduino and Apple products that
greatly simplify all the handshaking and low-level stuff
you'd otherwise have to do to establish a WiFi
 connection.
    The book: Making
Things Talk covers this very well, but you can also find
 tutorials about this:

Hello, I don't know if this has been
asked as i've been away from the group for a long time.
I was wondering if anyone has any experience with wifi
modules for use with microcontrollers such as arduino? I am
looking for something like the RN XV as seen here:
 https://www.sparkfun.com/products/11048
Ideally one that can use an external
antenna (u.fl or sma connector) and can work to stream data
to ipad with no internet connection. Just wondering how easy
these types of modules are to configure.
