[Lab] Need some ideas

I found this neat clock at Canadian tire, priced down from $60 to $20 
(my wife pointed it out) so bought it.  The front is glass (not 
plastic), but in the dark you can't see anything.  I want to add a LED 
(or some) to backlight, and was thinking the edge of the glass.

See attached pic.
As an aside, the clock uses two D cell batteries in parallel, so it is 
going to be a power eater, but looks so geeky cool.
