Hi Britta,

I don't how one can use VoIP over the cable, if Rogers does not offer that service (since it has to be registered at the Rogers centre and the modem is activated and monitored by Rogers). I had Rogers VoIP until September but I switched to Teksavvy.com VoIP (Tektalk) because the cost is 1/3 of Rogers VoIP for Residential users. Also if you have a Bell modem, which uses the DSL service, it won't work with over the Cable system. By the way, Teksavvy uses Rogers cable system for all their Cable services. They sell their VoIP modem for $100 or you can use your modem if it is compatible but you may have to check with them. Teksavvy also provides DSL (buys trunks from Bell) VoIP service, and may be you can use your modem if you subscribe to that and if your modem is compatible.

By the way, I switched both my cable Internet and VoIP to Teksavvy and I am saving a bundle compared to Rogers! I still have the TV with Rogers since I cannot find a cheaper replacement for their service. Bell FibeTV looks attractive until you check the programming, you have to pay $15/month for some basic French channels which are included in Rogers TV.
