[Lab] 3d printing

I am reading up on 3d printing.

I would like to get kit to assemble. I wish to learn what and why it works and see if I can modify it.

I also would like to see the thing print.

I don't have any real model making experience. I would need to get tools and set up workspace.

I need lots and lots of advice. Who in Ottawa area has working (reprap?) 3d printing devices?
