Artengine's Open Workshop series continues with
"Intro to OpenSCAD"
by Andrew Plumb
WHEN: Thursday April 26th 2012, 7pm-9pm
WHERE: M70 Lab in Artscourt, 2 Daly Ave
WHY: Information wants to be free!
IF INTERESTED IN THE WORKSHOP, PLEASE READ BELOW:
OpenSCAD is a Free Open Source Software (GPL) for creating solid 3D CAD
objects. Objects are defined and maintained in script form for precision
and ease of revision control. For those of us more comfortable with
keyboards and software development flows than mice and mesh manipulations,
this is A Good Thing!
Topics covered in this "Introduction to OpenSCAD" workshop will include an
overview of the basic script language constructs and will introduce
approaches to hierarchical object design for fabrication and re-use. Tips
and tricks learned from designing objects for 3D printing and 2D laser
cutting fabrication will be shared.
Please bring your own laptop. Download the "Latest 2011.12" binaries for
your OS (Mac, Linux or Windows) from http://www.openscad.org/ and load a
few of the built-in Examples (from the File menu) to confirm that they run
in your installation. If you run into problems with the examples, try a
2012.04 Development Snapshot from the same page. OpenSCAD source code is
available and maintained at https://github.com/openscad/openscad
MeshLab is recommended for visualizing and repairing 3D meshes and
point-sets in a variety of formats: http://www.meshlab.org/
Netfabb Studio Basic (http://www.netfabb.com/basic.php) and/or netfabb
Cloud Service (http://cloud.netfabb.com/) are useful for cleaning up mesh
files from other (non-OpenSCAD) sources.
