Book of the Dead, encaustic on wood, 1999,
15" x 21"
Forty-five wooden laths, glued face-to-face, pegged and sanded smooth
into a 2"-thick undulating slab. It tricks you; it's weighty, like
Egyptian sandstone, but the surface, seen through golden clear beeswax,
evokes the papyrus of the third century BC original."
