Pd/GEM
An Artengine workshop facilitated by Ben Bogart
(Intermediate level)
May 28th 2005, 9:30am to 4pm
& May 29th 2005, 10am to 4pm
ARTENGINE LAB, 44 Byward St. Suite 240
Fee: 20 $ for members and 30 $ for non-members
(max. 15 participants)
Metaphor is defined as the mapping of the conceptual domain of one
word, such as phrase or sentence (the source domain) to another (the
target domain). This metaphorical model can be created with a group of
symbols that are mathematically connected. This model is ideal to
create metaphorical networks in data flow. Data flow languages are
highly focused on working with scales of numbers (such as audio
signals). The most valuable skills for creating such networks (after
creativity) are linear algebra and calculus.
Workshop Content:
1. Overview PureData/Gem
2. What is a Dataflow Language? (refresher)
3. Metaphor and Dataflow (metaphorical networks)
4. Advanced PureData topics
5. Free exploration and project for Open Lab
Please register at pnicastro at artengine.ca
NOTE: Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptops to the
workshop.
Artengine would like to acknowledge the generous support of the Canada
Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, the Ontario Trillium
Foundation and the City of Ottawa
