Laser through a jug of water gives you some way cool refractions, too. :)
There's an artist/physicist named Elsa Garmire who pioneered laser
diffraction art back in the 70's - imagine how blown people's minds would
have been seeing this for the first time.
Her "lasergrams" captivated film director Ivan Dryer so much that he
insisted that they play the diffractions over music, and the first
laser-light show (Laserium!) was born.
