Hi Darcy,
I know that this is probably a bit late for your dust control project. I
use a Kent CNC dust shoe for my cnc. www.kentcnc.net It works very well and
gets most of the dust to the dust collector. Cost me about $160 after
currency conversion and shipping, so not a cheap option. I did it only
because I wanted to get things done in a hurry.
Looking at your set-up, you aren't far away from that form factor. The dust
shoe is in two pieces, with the brush part/skirt attached with rare earth
magnets. To change my bits out, all I need to do is raise the z-axis and
then remove the skirt. I don't have to remove the hole shoe. Here is a
similar design on Instructables:
http://www.instructables.com/id/More-stable-dust-collection-boot-for-CNC-rou
ters/ It just snaps back in place when you need to put it back.
For noise control of your shop-vac, there are various projects online to
build sound-reducing cabinets. Here is one that I was looking at a while
ago for my smaller CNC build:
http://www.startwoodworking.com/post/how-silence-your-shop-vac
or this one:
http://home.comcast.net/~prestondrake/Stuff_Workshop_shopvacsilencer.htm
BTW, that spindle looks great. I would order one with you because I need to
change my current spindle on my small CNC, but I have too many projects on
the go as it is. I will probably get to it next year.
Regards,
John

I'm about to try my first hardwood inlay project.
What to finish it with? I understand there is some sort of oil that's good
for that?

Not sure if anybody's building a small cnc, but i'm about to order a spindle
for the Marauder http://inventorartist.com/marauder-cnc/
I was thinking of getting one of those cheap spindles like the link at the
bottom https://www.inventables.com/technologies/quiet-cut-spindle
I have a version of that on my cnc and I've been pretty happy with it. So
I'm planning on trying it again on the Marauder project.
Anybody want to try and do a bulk buy?
