[Lab] Arduino GSM GPRS Sheild for $5 aliexpress

It's not GPS, just cellular. Imagine putting a data logger for weather or
animal movement off in the forest. Or a device in your car that can text
you if someone breaks in. Anything where you need intermittent connectivity
where there is no Wi-Fi.
