Often lampshades have an internal plastic support for fabric that also acts
as a heat shield. Maybe acetate or mylar? I've done acetate cutouts with
a vinyl cutter but not a laser yet.
Using LED, halogen or fluorescent bulbs will of course cut down on the max
temp.
