CIRCUIT-BENDING AND CONTACT MICROPHONE WORKSHOP
Wednesday April 27th 2011, 6PM – 10PM
Number of participants: 12
Price: $50 non-members / $35 members
Instructors: Jeff Morton & Emily Daniels
Deadline to register: Tuesday April 26 @ 5PM
This intensive workshop will cover fundamentals of contact microphone
construction and electronic toy modification for live music/sound.
Participants will learn simple techniques for building their own
contact microphones from simple parts, and how to use these
microphones to amplify objects, including guitars, drums, tables,
bowls, and countless other instruments and objects. Participants will
also learn how to circuit-bend electronic toys and keyboards to create
new hi-fi instruments with great expressive control and often wacky
sound results. Participants will keep all microphones and instruments
that they make. The workshop will last 4 hours. Participants use
soldering irons, hot glue guns, wires, electronics tools and
techniques, and found/recycled toys and objects. The workshop
instructor(s) supervise the soldering stations and work with
participants one-on-one and in small groups. The workshop is open to
anyone with any amount of experience. Children and youth are welcome
but children under 14 should be accompanied by an adult.
