There is a limit to your speed based on what size/rating of stepper motors
you have, and the gear ratio that translates rotation speed into linear
speed. You can always tell your machine to go slower, but it can't go faster
than what it is mechanically capable of.

The gearing depends on how much force you need.
In the case of milling: a considerable amount.
in the case of 3DP: not much at all.
