<div dir="ltr">I'll second Britta on this; as I understand it, the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) is in partnership with a couple groups: "A Child's Voice Foundation" (a.k.a. "Angel Hair for Kids") and "Pantene Beautiful Lengths". These two groups accept the hair donations to make wigs for cancer patients; "Angel Hair..." for children and "Pantene..." for adults. I think which one of the two you donate your hair to is your choice ultimately (as Britta mentioned, they have slightly different requirements), but the fundraising part always and only benefits the CCS. When I create the campaign, it will be the CCS hosting the team website and providing the paper forms (if needed) as well as tax receipts for the fundraising efforts. <br>
<br>As for the event itself, we'd settle on a day sometime down the road and either make our way to a predetermined local salon (we've got our pick; there are a handful throughout the city that participate in this program) or we'd host some kind of event ourselves and have them come to us. Either way, they'll take care of all the hairdressing then and there. <br>
<div><br></div><div>I do want to point out that <i>you don't have to donate hair</i> to participate on a team. In 2007 we only had one donor (Tom), the other handful of us with too little hair to donate simply pledged to help in the fundraising and shave our heads when it was all over. I was working in IT at a local college back home at the time, so we made a show of the event. prepared to go it alone and fundraise as well as make my hair donation as
an individual, as the saying goes: there's strength in numbers, so
I'm putting this call out to you, my fellow Makers, to team up with me.
I know the spirit's out there; a couple of Makers in our ranks -
namely, Britta and Doug - have already donated their hair within the past
year, but even if you don't have enough hair to donate, we can still
join forces. Back in 2007, I was part of a "Shave a Nerd"
campaign where we only had one hair donor among us, but the other dozen or
so on the team joined in on the fundraising and had our heads shaved in
solidarity. I'm aiming to do something like that for artengine.
It's fun, it's for a good cause and it's a chance to garner
some free publicity of sorts for our humble Makerspace. I'm open to
suggestions on the Team name, but "Maker Haire" feels right. I
haven't put together a team page or registered anything yet; I wanted
to put this out there as a feeler before I took that next step. So,
who's with me?<br>
