I would suggest designs made in Inkscape be saved as PDF and then sent to the laser engraver with Sumatra PDF. I struggled for several hours using Inkscape and Acrobat with no results before finding this combination that works perfectly for me.
Been there, done that. Britta finally solved my issue. Inkscape has a crappy driver (?) and will not probably recognize/differentiate between the two types (raster and vector). so you will have to print the pdf separately as far as i know.
Maybe someone else actually solved this?
It seemed related to the fact that I was using 100 DPI, but the fourth table here (http://www.epiloglaser.com/tl-line-weights.htm) says it should have worked. I ended up doing it as two separate jobs: one raster at 100 DPI and one vector as 500 DPI. Anyone else had better luck with combined jobs?
