I haven't read through all the material, but it looks like it uses heat-sensitive ink, that the device then heats up over a couple passes to erase?fascinating...

   Darcy's had one of these in the modlab for years - but an MIT prof has a kickstarter up for a wall-plotter robot and they're already ~1000% funded.
