For a FDM style, many are going with the Cubicon Single Plus for reliability. (see https://www.inksmith.co/printers)

If it is for private use (not shared / club), then you could skimp on the automatic bed levelling, etc.

There are a few interesting but untested SLA style ones like https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/sparkmaker-the-most-affordable-sla-3d-printer#/ that are coming out.

Subject: [Lab] 3D printer - any advice please?

Dear all,

After speaking with Gudmund (a 3D ‘master’) I am now looking at the high-end version (TOUCH Plus DOUBLE E) of the following 3D printer https://www.aliexpress.com/item/full-metal-frame-best-price-3d-printer-kit/32262897404.html

It has a large build volume, dual extruder and heated bed. The open frame design looks as if I could build an enclosure for it quite simply...

Anyone with 3D printing experience have any suggestions or additional thoughts?

Many thanks,

... Adrian
