[Lab] Phosphorescent coatings?

Dear all,
I have resurrected my LightWriter Clock (see
http://woodsgood.ca/projects/clocks/light-writer-clock/) and have everything
working properly now. However, I am having trouble sourcing a good quality
phosphorescent paint. The reviews of the cans that are sold at the big box
stores suggest that I shouldn't waste my money and several eBay purchases
have been quite expensive and the results rather disappointing. I've
recently ordered some 3W LEDs with wavelengths around 350-400nm to see
whether UV light excites the coating better than the high power blue LED I'm
currently using.
Can anyone suggest a good light/phosphorescent coating combination for this
project?
Other thoughts?

Many thanks,

.... Adrian
