[Lab] Ponoko

I haven't compared against Ponoko, but they do well against Big Blue Saw.  I recently ordered 5 pieces each of three variations of a piece that was cut out of 10"X10"X1/4" aluminum, and the final price was cheaper than I would normally have paid for the blank material.

If it's a really small part, I was told to expect a minimum fee of something on the order of $25 to cover programming, material purchase, and setup time.  Big Blue Saw seems to have a lower limit of about $80 for a small job, so $25 plus the option to pick up locally suits me just fine.

Cheers,

Nigel

How do their rates compare with the same design priced at Ponoko?  The gottcha with Ponoko is there's something like a minimum $14 shipping charge which makes the smaller jobs less appealing.

I've also used Virtucom in Kanata for water and laser cutting. I've been pleased by the quality of their work, but turnaround times can be a bit variable. Check out virtucom-inc.com.

Yup, I've sent a few designs thru them.  For the laser-cut items only takes about two or three days from submission to ship.  Then you're at the mercy of USPS/Canada Post; that can take anywhere from a couple of days to a week.

Hi,

Anyone here use Ponoko?  Was wondering what their turn-around time is?

Thanks,
ao.
