99 Red Beacons Tracker is the application that goes alongside the artwork "99 Red Beacons" for Nuit Blanche Ottawa + Gatineau.
99 flashing red balloons tour the city, each one with a morse code message of a member of the Canadian Armed Forces. Inspired by the Cold War song 99 Luftballons, "99 Red Beacons" deals with the themes of invisible communication & military influence. This is the application that tracks the participants of the artwork during the night to be displayed at SAW Gallery. This application was made possible because of the generosity of Nuit Blanche Ottawa + Gatineau, Ontario Arts Council, and SAW Gallery.
This app collects your gps position for the purpose of the Nuit Blanche 2013 art installation, and uses your internet or data connection to send this data to a server. It will continue to run in the background unless you turn off the GPS toggle. Your position is sent with a unique id, but no other identifying information. Your data will not be resold or distributed to any third parties.
