Critical Resident 2013 Ė Melody McKiver
Artengine and Apartment613 are pleased to introduce Melody McKiver as our fourth Critical Blogging Resident. Melody will start her year-long residence with Artengine and Apartment613 with a trip to the cutting edge Elektra Festival in Montrťal this May, where she will post daily from the festival. Her posts from Elektra will be available on our blog or over at apt613.ca in early May.

More about Melody McKiver
Melody is currently in the process of completing her MA in Ethnomusicology at the Memorial University of Newfoundland. She lived in St. John's, NL from September 2010 to August 2012, when she returned to her hometown of Ottawa. She received her BFA in Music, and Minor in Race, Ethnicity, and Indigeneity with a focus in performance of classical and improvisational viola/violin, jazz and improvisational percussion. She wrote a recap of the ImagineNATIVE Film & Media Arts Festival for RPM.fm, which is an online platform for Indigenous Music Culture based out of British Columbia, but profiling artists worldwide. For the academic journal Decolonization: Indigeneity, Education and Society's blog, she wrote an article titled "How Do You Say Idle No More in Anishinaabemowin?" which dealt with situating her family history within broader processes of Canadian colonialism, work on Anishinaabemowin language restoration, and steps forward for Idle No More organizing. www.melodymckiver.com
