Interstellar Alternatives

This immersive 3D environment addresses themes of colonialism, exploitation and consumption by examining a possible future of space travel and tourism. Interstellar Illusions leverages science fiction and fantasy aesthetics within a navigate-able speculative narrative. Viewers are invited to explore a fictional and abandoned extraplanetary luxury resort. It is unclear as to why the resort has been vacated, but what’s left behind offers an eerie glimpse of what the future of space travel and tourism could be.

Experiments in machine hallucinations by Valérie Bélanger

In Fungus Dreams, Valérie Bélanger explores the aesthetic possibilities of emerging AI tools by combining her own wildlife photography with the outputs of generative video system powered by machine learning tools. Bélanger uploaded still images, over and over again, each time extending the space of the photo into a increasingly dreamy landscape. The resulting video is a surreal machine dreaming landscape.

An Artengine commision by Annika Walsh

Produced during their time as a Junior Fellow at Artengine, Technically Soup was commissioned for our shared kitchen and lounge area. This area is an important space in the Artengine facility, where we come together around a table in as many configurations as their are members of our community. Walsh has been exploring the intersection of food and art in her practice for many years and we wanted them to bring this artistic perspective into our most social of spaces. Come by for a bowl of something we can technically call soup!

An aggregator of Canadian arts content assembled from YouTube

The CanCon AV Index (CAVI) is a collection of over 33,000 YouTube videos from 500+ cultural organizations receiving government funding and operating across the Indigenous territories we now call Canada.

Click on the link to go to directly to the searchable index or check out our collection of resource pages about the project.

Using a collection of open data tools and available plugins for Chrome and WordPress, we hacked together a resource for cultural professionals, researchers and students. The CAVI fences off sections of YouTube and presents it to you without their visual clutter and algorithmic interference.
