BANGLADESH
The majority of seizures carried out in Bangladesh during 1991 involve cannabis (648 seizures of herbal cannabis totalling 1.1 tonnes, and 184 seizures of 208,874 plants). The next most seized drug is heroin (251 seizures totalling 14.481 kg). Other drugs reported seized are cannabis resin (5.428 kg), cocaine (2.545 kg), opium (55 grams) and synthetic narcotics (134 units) (U.N. 1991).
BHUTAN
No information reported by 31st December 1993.
INDIA
During 1990, 39,090 kg of cannabis, 2,141 kg of methaqualone, 6,388 kg of hashish, 2,193 kg of heroin and 2,114 kg of opium were seized. In 1991, the seizures were 52,653 kg of cannabis, 4,418 kg of methaqualone, 4,413 kg of hashish, 622 kg of heroin and 9,145 kg of Opium. During January to August 1992, 22,788 kg of cannabis, 3,319 kg of methaqualone, 3,082 kg of hashish, 944 kg of heroin and 765 kg of opium were seized (Dass, B. 1992).
The Central Bureau of Narcotics of Gwalior reported the seizure of almost 52 million cannabis plants (ESCAP 1991).
MALDIVES
Most seizures reported carried out in Maldives involve cannabis. Between 1982 and 1992 a total of approximately 2.5 kg of herbal cannabis and 11 kg of cannabis resin have been seized as well as cannabis oil and seeds. Other seized drugs reported are heroin (12.5 kg in 1984 and 509 grams in 1993), opium (totalling approximately 1.2 kg between 1982 and 1992), psilocybe mushrooms (18 grams in 1982, 0.5 grams in 1984) and amphetamine salts (0.5 grams in 1983) (Maldives 1993).
NEPAL
Drugs reported seized in 1992 were 2.1 tonnes of herbal cannabis, 968 kg of cannabis resin, 21.395 kg of heroin and 737 grams of opium (HONLEA 1993).
SRI LANKA
In 1990, 81.936 kg of heroin and 9,370.4 kg of cannabis were seized. In 1991, 24.767 kg of heroin and 9,997.739 kg of cannabis were seized. In 1992, the figures were 36.126 kg and 49,229.852 kg for heroin and cannabis respectively (U.N. 1990, 1992; Other 1991).
