Goya + Flamenco en Rouge = Corrientes
Music and Beyond Festival: Saturday, July 13, 2019
Flamenco en Rouge (FER) is presenting Corrientes (Currents) on Saturday, July 13 at 3 pm at Dominion- Chalmers Church as part of the Music and Beyond Festival. The latter’s name fits this performance perfectly given the exquisite melange of flamenco guitar, dance, and song set against the chosen artwork that the audience will see on the Church’s remodelled and generously extended stage.
How is it that a Halifax-based troupe has aligned itself with the iconic Spanish Romantic painter and print maker, whose name and work are universally known? Artist Curator, Dr. David Howard in collaboration with Artistic Director and founder of FER, Martine Durier-Copps, presents Goya’s Dancing on the Banks of Manzanares as a coming together of water and movement, light and shadows. These elements drive the themes of Corrientes: a visually dazzling multimedia exploration of the power and force of the sea, integrating visual projection of sea images and Spanish art with the intense drama and power of flamenco music and dance.
This one-time Ottawa performance is a feast for the eyes, ears and emotions. Tickets are available at the Music and Beyond Website:
