This class is intended for serious beginners and anyone unfamiliar with the basic tenets of classical figure drawing, particularly with an 18th century focus.
You will leave with a deeper understanding of:
Grace and movement and how this informs our thinking
Structural thinking and how to construct vs just copy
How to correctly use and think of your block in
What are the elements of an effective, accurate and beautiful contour
the rules of organic form and what is the shape of humanity
The workshop will be a combination of demos and practice time. During practice time, I will spend one-on-one time with each student, giving guidance, critique and support. We will always work from a live model.
About the Instructor:
Sarah Marie Lacy is an award-winning Ottawa-based artist & teacher who makes work about humanity and grace. She trained in France under master artists and is part of a 500 year lineage stretching back to Renaissance Italy. She has won international awards at the Portrait Society of America and The Artist’s Magazine for her portraiture and was recently a finalist in the prestigious Kingston Prize.
