This collection of large scale abstract paintings captures often overlooked modest moments of beauty, revealed unexpectedly in the imperfect and the fleeting, but that nevertheless illuminate our humanity.
Each blank canvas allowed the artist to expressively explore colour and marks as a way to record, without figurative forms or literal references, the impressions and memories of a singular day or place in time. The abstract imagery allows you to connect with each piece in solitary exploration of the surface giving you the opportunity to shift your thoughts from the daily barrage of your schedule to appreciating the beauty in each day just waiting to be discovered.
Karen Goetzinger is an Ottawa-based artist. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fashion Design with an emphasis in Fine Arts from Mount Mary University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her work is exhibited by public and commercial galleries throughout North America, and has been shown in exhibition spaces in China and Australia. It hangs in both private and corporate collections internationally.
Utilizing layers of mixed media, she expressively marks the imprint of time and place on individual memory. Each artwork is intentionally without figurative elements allowing the viewer to become the human element, in solitary interaction with the abstract landscape and their own narratives.
This exhibition is made possible with the support of ARTicipate Endowment Fund and the Ontario Arts Council.
