OTTAWA DRAWS FOR COMMUNITY COLOURING BOOK RAISING PROCEEDS FOR ADOLESCENTS, THE ARTS AND MENTAL HEALTH.
The Ottawa Colouring Book for Anyone will be launching its fourth volume of the book, on Monday, November 18, 2019 at Jabberwocky (315 Somerset Street West), from 6:30-9pm.
The project is an annual compilation of art drawn by people from and/or living in Ottawa, which is then compiled into a colouring book. The proceeds from the sales will support three non-profit causes, including A.R.T. in Action Ottawa (who provide free art workshops for youth with multiple barriers), the C.H.E.O. Pens & Paint program (an early intervention art-based program that focuses on coping with stress and understanding mental health through visual arts and creative writing), and the Cultural Arts Studio (dedicated to the sharing and preservation of Afro-Caribbean culture through dance, wellness & community programs).
The book launch will include live music from Mia Pacheco and Ryan Stone, food and drink, door prizes, and of course, colouring!
The project also includes a youth competition - the winning art is featured on the cover of the book and a cash prize is awarded. Every year brings new surprises as we see what our young artists have to offer creatively. Artists in the book sometimes include names we know, but not necessarily for their art. This year we are proud to include Douglas Cardinal, Dr. Kathi Pajer (Chief of Psychiatry at CHEO and Chair of the Ottawa Department of Psychiatry), and Spartacat in our lineup of esteemed artists. Participation is not about being a skillful artist, it is about encouraging people to give themselves permission to play and to have fun with art while supporting important initiatives. Our book is part of what has ensued. Come see for yourself, and support a wonderful cause!
