Workshop for Actors and Directors

GCTC & TACTICS present the
Actors’ and Directors’ SPA

Supporting Performing Artists

GCTC and TACTICS invite Ottawa actors to join us at the SPA. This initiative offers a chance for nourishing actor-self-care in a relaxing and positive environment. Sometimes you just need to take a retreat from your daily routine and take care of yourself. And what better way than by going to the spa?

The Actors’ and Directors’ SPA is inspired by company classes regularly offered at the Stratford and Shaw Festivals, by various actors’ gyms and directors’ labs offered frequently in other cities and by specific projects like Vanya on 42nd Street and Tim Carroll’s Hamlet Project. Working under the understanding that development is never complete for actors and directors, these projects offer a chance to nurture your practice and add to your toolbox away from the pressure of auditions and performances. Just like professional athletes who train all year, and like any of us who sometimes just need a day at the spa, a little practice and intentional self-care is good for everyone, whether you are fresh out of theatre school or have been a working professional for years.

Our next SPA “retreat” will be held at GCTC on

Sunday March 18 12-7pm and Monday March 19 4-8pm

The SPA will focus on text study and scene work. In our 2-day retreat, we will be discussing and rehearsing scenes from Lillian Hellman’s groundbreaking 1934 play,
The Children’s Hour. We will work with several local directors with different approaches to character and scene work, and all participants will have lots of opportunities to work.

In this edition of the SPA, we plan to bring together early-to-mid-career actors that have some professional experience along with several more established artists to dive into this rich text in a professional atmosphere and with a spirit of adventure.

Participation is free, and participants must be available for both sessions.

To apply, please email Eric at by Tuesday March 13 with your acting resume and a brief note about why you’d like to participate.
