The SPAO Centre, mere steps from Preston Street’s vibrant entertainment district, is a multi-purpose photo hub, the only one of its kind in Canada, which houses:
v The School of Photographic Arts: Ottawa (SPAO), the world-renowned, independent, non-profit school of photographic arts, offering a two-year college diploma program, as well as continuing education opportunities in all aspects of contemporary, traditional and alternative photographic processes.
v SPAO’s International Artist Residency, bringing both local and international photographic artists together to further develop and share their craft in Ottawa.
v The only independent and critical Photographic Art Gallery in the National Capital Region. The gallery will showcase work by local, national and international artists.
v A new, custom-designed, SPAO Space for events, performances, exhibitions, and receptions.
After 12 years at its original home on Dalhousie Street, the School of the Photographic Arts: Ottawa will be launching its inaugural semester and enhanced programing in its new location, the SPAO Centre. Located in the heart of Ottawa’s Little Italy district, the SPAO Centre’s purpose-built warehouse conversion was made possible by the generous design support of Hobin Architecture.
We invite the public to celebrate Ottawa’s newest arts facility, the SPAO Centre’s Grand Opening on Friday, November 10th, from 5:00pm to 11:00pm. Meet faculty and students, see the work of students past and present, and tour the gallery, studio, and darkroom facilities. Speeches will take place at 7:30pm, as well as a special live performance by Ottawa’s The PepTides, and La voix runner-up, Rebecca Noelle at 9:00pm.
