Understanding the Portrait: 8 Week Evening Class

Dates: Wednesday Oct 11 2017 – Wednesday Dec 6 2017 (no classes Oct 25)
Time: 6:30pm-8:30pm
Price: $300 (includes HST + model fee)
Location: Southminster United Church, 15 Aylmer Ave (Galt St entrance)

Class Description

This class is intended for serious beginners and through advanced students.

You will leave with a deeper understanding of:
the forms, subforms and planes of the head
Structural thinking and how to think in three dimensional space
how to capture deep likeness and character in your drawings using the matrix of proportion
How to correctly use and think of your block in
What are the elements of an effective, accurate and beautiful contour
the rules of organic form
how light to light your portrait

Most classes will be a combination of demos and practice time, with some classes being practice only. During practice time, I will spend one-on-one time with each student, giving guidance, critique and support.

About the Instructor:

Sarah Marie Lacy is an award-winning Ottawa-based artist & teacher who makes work about humanity and grace. She trained in France under master artists and is part of a 500 year lineage stretching back to Renaissance Italy. She has won international awards at the Portrait Society of America and The Artist’s Magazine for her portraiture and was recently a finalist in the prestigious Kingston Prize.
