Ann Bird
147 McGillivray St.

Ann Bird brings elements of the natural world, a spiritual awareness of their balance within that world, and the design elements of mainstream culture to her medium of fabric. Her wallhangings and quilts are part of private and public collections on both sides of the Canada-U.S. border. The origins of her artistry lie in the world of the traditional bed quilt, where she found patterns and colour combinations that were rich in potential for her own visions. The results vary in size from miniature landscape studies to wall hangings approximately eight feet square. Her actual subject matter includes many studies of northern lights, the caribou migration in Canada's north, and, from Asian culture, a series of mandala star designs, the latter at the rate of about one a year.

Ann has taught other quilt artists in Canada, Europe and the U.S., and her work has been reproduced for a quarter century in art
