Janet Moore uses the land as a metaphor
for interior psychic space. The land is both magnificent, ever present,
and in these works a backdrop for broken canoes that are symbolic of the
memories of dramatic breaks in life. Moore has explained that, for her,
place exists not only visually and in terms of touch, but also in a realm
that defies words and pictures.
